Structures, Inc. Designs New Building in Cape Girardeau, MO to Combat Seismic Occurrence

The Community Counseling Center (CCC), located in Cape Girardeau, MO, is a private, charitable  behavioral health organization helping those with mental illness since 1976. CCC provides services to nearly 7,800 individuals at 12 locations annually throughout 5 southeastern counties in Missouri.  Due to the high demand for integral patient care, a new medical office building was needed to continue providing necessary services to those patients.  Cape Girardeau, MO is located along the notorious New Madrid Fault and the seismic and structural requirements for new construction is of paramount importance.

Structures, Inc. was contracted by Phillip B. Smith, AIA of Cape Girardeau, MO to provide structural and seismic design services for the two-story MOB expansion. From the outset, Structures, Inc. approached the floor framing plan by employing a "two directional" steel moment frame design to resist lateral wind and seismic loads. The moment frames use a Reduced Beam Section (RBS) to ensure ductile behavior during a seismic event.

According to Senior Structural Engineer, Paul Hesse, PE, “It was a pleasure working with Phillip Smith on this project".  It could not have gone more smoothly.  Equally we are proud to have been part of a project bringing much needed resources to the southeast Missouri community.”
